The Students’ Activities Committee (Afternoon and Section) of the Department of Commerce (Afternoon and Evening Section) organized a Two-Day Workshop on Power Start – A workshop on unlocking Spreadsheet Fundamentals on the 17th of August 2024. The workshop aimed to provide participants with fundamental knowledge and practical skills on Spreadsheet usage.
The workshop began with a warm welcome address from Ms. Arundhati Dinesh Mundhra, setting an energetic tone for the session to follow. Prof. Debdutta Sen Faculty of the Department of Commerce (Afternoon & Evening Section) delivered the opening address. Ms. Arundhati Mazumder then introduced Dr. Dhrubashish Sarkar, Principal of the Supreme Institute of Management, Hooghly, emphasizing his extensive expertise in research, teaching, and training. The event reached a notable highlight when Dr. Sarkar was honored by Prof. Atreyee Ganguly, Associate Professor of the Department of Commerce (Afternoon and Evening Section), marking a significant moment of recognition.
Dr. Dhrubashish Sarkar began the session with an introductory overview of spreadsheets, using real life examples to enhance the students’ understanding. He covered how to use data validation and functions such as SUMIF and COUNTIF, explaining their practical applications. The session continued with a focus on various types of charts, including pie charts and line charts, among others. He concluded his session by explaining data organisation and the usage and importance of the various kinds of filters available in the Spreadsheet like Auto Filter and Advanced Filter.
The workshop concluded with Dr. Meghdoot Ghosh, Faculty of the Department of Commerce (Afternoon & Evening Section) delivering the vote of thanks, expressing appreciation for the organizing committee, participants, and everyone involved in making the workshop a success. A total of 45 students of Semester I had attended the workshop. The workshop on spreadsheets provided students with an opportunity to learn the fundamentals, covering various functions and their practical applications. Participants were provided with a feedback form and were encouraged to complete the same and submit in order to ensure the smooth facilitation of the issuance of certificates.
