The Sun, the sky and the stars intrigue us irrespective of our academic and professional backgrounds and the students of The Bhawanipur Education Society College were beyond honored to have Dr. Debiprosad Duari, an internationally renowned astrophysicist, educator and researcher to share his words of wisdom with them. Dr. Duari is associated with NASA and the M.P. Birla Planetarium in Kolkata. Prof. Dilip Shah inaugurated the event ‘Meet the Scientist’ and shared with everyone how astronomy interests almost every person and is a great subject to dive into. There were around 75 students in the webinar apart from some faculty members.
Dr. Duari then shared his presentation titled as ‘Our Cosmic Quest’ which was full of interesting facts. He discussed the history of astronomy, one of the oldest known subject to mankind and its importance and how relevant it is till date. He talked the students through almost everything relating to the universe- the Sun, the stars, the moon, the asteroids, the Earth and all other planets surrounding us. He also spoke about ISRO’s second lunar mission Chandrayaan 2 and the various other projects in the pipeline.
The webinar was extremely fulfilling and fascinating. It was delightful to know how we are all a very small part of this very big universe. The webinar enriched everyone’s scientific knowledge and by the end had lured everyone into astronomy.
