The Bhawanipur Education Society College has a record of taking up new challenges as well as meeting them up with courage and honour. Moot Court was one such event organised by the college in collaboration with ICSI (Delhi) on 19th August, 2019 from 10:30 am onwards at Jubilee Hall. The initiative was taken by FCS Mohit Shaw, a faculty of Law & HR in BESC. Moot Court is basically a mock court room where the practicing lawyers argue the case studies according to the updated laws.
The event was held with an intention to contribute to the development of a more refined mooting culture throughout the country. The Anchors Rashi Saha and Devangsh Dalmia welcomed and introduced the chief guests for the event: CS Rajesh Chura (Chairman; ICSI,EIRC); Sreejesh Nair (Regional officer of ICSI, FIRC); Srinath Kesri. Prof Dilip Shah gave an inaugurating speech as a preparatory moment for the final showdown.
400+ students of BCOM (Honours) from morning, afternoon and evening departments along with BA students filled the hall with their enthusiastic outcry. The crowd witnessed historical judgements on the sabarimala Temple case, which was an open house debate for arguments. Students who actively took part in the open house debate were: Anurag Dhanania, Preeti Jain, Tanay Sarda, Miss Richa Sharma (Faculty), CS Mohit Shaw and Prof Dilip Shah.
Next the three historic judgemental case studies 1) Mohori Bibee v/s Dharmodas Ghose; 2) Chinnaya v/s Ramayya; 3) Lalman Shukla v/s Gauri Dutt presented in the form of a drama amazed the audience with an aura of entertainment and knowledge. After every case, the event had an open house discussion with vote by show of hands.
At the tail end of the session certificates were provided to all the audience, the team members of the drama and the organisers officially associated with ICSI, a nationally governed statutory body for Company Secretaries. CS Mohit Shaw was presented with a gift hamper as a token of appreciation and honour for his persistent motivation. Though not present, CS Sudhir Banthiya, VISA Steel Ltd & Council member (ICSI; EIRC) sent his love, regards and success for the Moot Court to the BESC through a video byte. The chief guests were given away mementos as a token of respect and honour. With such a happy note the event came to an end and Prof Dilip Shah assured that Bhawanipur Education Society College will take such moves in future as well.
