The Bhawanipur Education Society College held a workshop on “Odoo”, an ERP Software used for various business activities of a firm. The workshop was presided by CA Shivam Davda on the 3rd April, 2024 at the Society Hall from 12.30 P.M. to 2.30 P.M. The major aim of the workshop was to initiate the students and the attendees about different financial activities, accounting being one of their main works in Odoo and how can the students make use of it in their daily lives.
The workshop commenced with the felicitation of Mr. Davda by Prof. Dilip Shah, Rector & Dean of Student Affairs, and Prof. Shah’s opening address which constituted the need for students to welcome software like Odoo with open hands for their own good.
Mr. Davda began briefly by overviewing the software and notifying all the key statistics in it; talked of its history and origin in Belgium, its steady evolution over the years, its uses in 71 countries across the world & its dedicated branch offices in fourteen countries with its Indian headquarters located at Gandhinagar, Gujarat. He went on to exemplify the different organizations associated with performing their financial duties through Odoo: The Somnath Temple of Gujarat and Isha Foundation of Coimbatore being few notable examples.
In the next one hour he provided the students with a live demonstration session where he showed them the dedicated financial modules of respective countries and the methods of finding out accounting transactions, creating accounting statements like sales invoice and evaluation of financial mathematics like that of taxation. Followed by this was the demonstration of standard technicalities to access data like Balance sheets, calculation of TDS, and Bank statements.
Amidst this discussion Mr. Davda took a detour to mention their subscription structure and shared information regarding their courses; the examination system and how Odoo certification would facilitate the candidates in their careers. He also talked about the preparations one can undertake and the efforts they need to exert in order to sit for the examination and supplied ready references for preparation: their YouTube channel which currently consists of three thousand four hundred videos to get the study materials through which the aspirants can study the functionalities of Odoo to get appropriately prepared.
During the rest of his discussion, Mr. Davda enumerated the processes behind evaluating the different types of financial bills starting from Vendor bills to Trade bills. After covering the accounting part of Odoo, he explored the other corporate facilities available in the software; most important of which, according to him, was web development. He demonstrated the whole procedure of designing a website for official purposes and how alterations in it can be made anytime.
The workshop turned out to be crucial for the Tally students who flooded the panel with their pragmatic questions in the Q&A session which eventually arrived at a conclusion that the problems they practice in Tally, can also be practiced in Odoo in order to upskill themselves.
