Objective of the Event:
To commemorate the scholarly contributions of Professor Aniruddha Ray and to foster critical engagement with themes in medieval Indian social history through an expert lecture. The event also aimed to strengthen academic collaboration between The Bhawanipur Education Society College and Paschimbanga Itihas Samsad.
Brief Description of the Event:
The Department of Bengali and the Department of History of The Bhawanipur Education Society College, in collaboration with Paschimbanga Itihas Samsad, organised the Professor Aniruddha Ray Memorial Lecture 2025 on 18 November 2025 at Concept Hall.
This year’s lecture was delivered by Professor Amit Dey, Ashutosh Chair Professor, University of Calcutta, on the theme “প্রসঙ্গ মধ্যযুগের ভারতের সমাজ ইতিহাসচর্চা”. Professor Dey offered a nuanced and engaging exploration of the socio-cultural dynamics of India’s ‘Pleasant Middle Ages’, illuminating the complexities, diversities, and methodological challenges inherent in studying medieval Indian society.
The programme was graced by Professor Arun Bandyopadhyay, President of Paschimbanga Itihas Samsad. Professor Debjani Gangopadhyay, Vice-Principal (Arts), delivered the welcome address. Faculty members, students, and research scholars from both institutions were present.
Outcome of the Event:
The lecture significantly enriched participants’ understanding of medieval Indian social history and encouraged stimulating academic dialogue. The interactive session fostered thoughtful engagement, while the event as a whole strengthened ongoing academic collaboration between The Bhawanipur Education Society College and Paschimbanga Itihas Samsad.
