Everyone enjoys sports, but they must not be limited to those that need physical power. Quizzing is a sport that values and appreciates a person’s mental strength, responsiveness, and IQ.
The ‘House of Trivia’ organized by the BBA Department of The Bhawanipur Education Society College was a quiz designed to test knowledge and increase excitement among participants. It aimed to encourage healthy competition by putting their mastery of various domains to the test. The goal was to expose them to the business world early on and prepare them for it. The event was held on August 18th and 19th, 2023 in Room 504 of the BBA Campus at 9, Elgin Road.
The participants were allowed to foster a healthy sense of rivalry while also evinced their decisiveness. The Bhawanipur Education Society College’s Department of Business Administration gathered a group of 16 zestful students who waited with bated breath to showcase their capabilities and the level of knowledge they possess.
The event began with Chayan Dasani, the emcee for the event welcoming the audience, participants, and teachers. He invited Professor Dr. Suman Kumar Mukerjee, Director General, BESC to the dais. Dr. Mukerjee congratulated the students and participants for making it to the final round. He invited one participant from each team to draw lots to determine their position and team numbers.
Disha Rupani, a final year student of the BBA department was the ‘Quiz Mistress’ for the event.
The event had two major rounds, the Preliminary/Qualifier and Secondary/Final respectively.
The preliminary round, which took place on August 18th, had an overwhelming response with almost 60 participants registering for the quiz. There were 35 questions wherein the participants had to write down their answers to the questions proposed by the quiz mistress on a piece of paper provided to them within 10 seconds each. Finally, 16 participants who had the maximum number of correct answers were chosen for the second round.
Eight teams consisting of two participants each qualified for the Second Round, which was far more challenging since they had to compete against the best quizzers. The Second Round was split into five sub-rounds.
The first sub-round was ‘Identify the correct logo,’ in which each team had 10 seconds to choose between the correct and incorrect logo displayed on the screen. They were awarded ten points for each accurate response.
‘Identify the Odd one out and give the reason’ was the second sub-round in which each team had twenty seconds to answer. Each correct answer had ten points.
The third sub-round was ‘Guess the brand by its tagline’. Each team was given the tagline of a famous brand and asked to guess which one it was. Teams had 10 seconds to answer, and each correct answer awarded them ten points.
The fourth sub-round was the Audio-Visual round. Each team was shown an advertisement of a product or a brand for not more than 20 seconds. Each team was asked a unique question related to it. They were given 20 seconds to answer the question correctly for which ten points were awarded. There was an audience round as well which received enthusiastic participation from both teachers and students.
The scorekeepers tallied the marks of each team up to the fourth round and informed the Quiz Mistress of the top 6 teams. The 2 teams with the least scores were eliminated while the rest proceeded to the final sub-round of the event.
The last sub-round was a rapid-fire round which was conducted by Prof. Paridhi Agarwal, a faculty member of the Department of Management at the BESC. The teams were given one minute to answer a maximum number of 10 questions. Few participants were successful in answering the question without a break, while others strove their best. The top 3 teams with the maximum correct answers were declared winners.
The first position was awarded to Devesh Sharma (Semester 5) and Jaya Pandey (Semester 3). The second position was awarded to Pratham Kothari (Semester 3) and Ananya Sarkar (Semester 3). Aayush Agarwal (Semester 3) and Syed Inshal Ali (Semester 3) were the second runner – ups.
The event received enthusiastic participation from all semesters of the Department of Management. The audience, as well as the judges, had a great time watching the competition.
The event ended with a vote of thanks which was delivered by the BBA Co-ordinator, Dr. Tridib Sengupta. He distributed the Certificates to the winners and participants. He also thanked the enthusiastic Event management group and the faculty coordinators of the event, Prof. Paridhi Agarwal, and Prof. Chiranjib Mitra without whom the event would not have been a success.
