The department of mathematics of the Bhawanipur Education Society College organised a seminar on Mathematics on the 8th of September at the Concept Hall of the Institution.
Dr Suchanda Chakraborty the Teacher in-charge gave the welcome speech and initiated the proceedings. Professor SK Dutta, Vice Principal, Science; Professor R Dhar Chakraborty, the Registrar and an associate of the Calcutta Mathematical Club and Professor A. Bhattacharya from Jadavpur University were present on the occasion and shared their distinguished views with the hundred students who were in attendance.
Renowned Mathematician and Teacher Prof S H Kulkarni from IIT Chennai, who was the Guest of Honour then took the podium, explaining the basic concepts of Mathematics and debunking the myths that have been built around Maths Anxiety. Prof Kulkarni’s talk was a revelation of sorts to the assembled students, who went back secure in the knowledge that Mathematics can not only become a friend for life, but if understood well and applied with fortitude, can become an invaluable asset for the students, in the world of academics and beyond.
In an era of Big Data, where algorhythms are all set to shape the future, the importance of maths in almost everything that we do cannot be overemphasised and the takeaway from this seminar will thus be invaluable felt the attending students.
