On the 20th of August, a team of 30 Commerce Plus students from The Bhawanipur Gujarati Education Society College headed towards a factory visit to sastasundar.com at Baruipur. The excited students gathered in the college premises right before time. The journey began at 9:30am with Prof. Vijay Kothari and they reached the factory premises by 11:15am. The students got a very warm welcome from the company official Mr. Ramesh Kumar Sharma (Executive Director) and Dr. Amitava Sarkar (President – Gourmet Services). The students were the served light refreshments at the conference room.
Welcoming the students, Mr. Sharma gave brief history and idea of the company. He also shared the vision of the company with the young audience. Sastasundar.com is a technology healthcare company. The company believes that Indians can get access to affordable healthcare by leveraging digital technology.

Thereafter, the students were shown a PPT and Video presentation by the company about the various products manufactured by them. The students were then taken to a tour of the different sections of the unit.
Online Pharmacy:- (Accounts for 90% of turnover)
India is one of the largest manufacturers of medicines in the world and boasts of the best of doctors. Yet, majority of Indians do not have access to consistent affordable healthcare. The company believes that it can be solved by connecting the missing link by leveraging digital technology. The company business model eliminated the need of multi layer of middlemen in medicine retailing which results in 15-25% savings on sale price of medicines. This saving is passed onto the buyers. The model is totally online. Buyer can order medicines online. The order is processed at the unit. The entire process is divided efficiently into online receipt of order, readying the order basket after retrieving products from the storage area, checking by approved pharmacist, packing and dispatch to channel partner called health buddy who deliver the products to the buyer. Adequate care is taken to maintain quality, stock and right packaging. The total time taken to process an order is 24 to 48 hours.
The company has recently ventured into making healthy snacks like Mixture, Cookies, and Chocolates under the brand ChefOn. It has also initiated a novel concept of making customized health drink DNAVita. Then there is a division which markets premium garden fresh tea under the brand ‘Pure and Fresh. The students were given a tour of all this units and were also treated with freshly baked cookies of various kinds and chocolates.
The company then offered a free BMI check to each students and gifted them a free sample of DNAVita health drink.
Next was an interactive session with Mr. Sharma and Sarkar where they satisfied all the queries of the students. It emerged that company processes about 7000 to 8000 orders per day and had immediate plans of expanding its operations in Bangalore, Mumbai and few other cities. The current location at Baruipur has an area of 7 acre which will soon be fully occupied with company expanding its new initiatives in manufacturing health products.
The trip concluded with delicious lunch served to all in the new canteen area.
The journey back to the college started at 4.00 pm and we all reached the college premises by 6.00 pm. It was a very productive and memorable factory visit which expanded the vision of students.
The Street Play was held in the lawn in front of the Common Room. It was judged by Abhishek Bannerjee and Janardhan Ghosh. A total of five team had participated and each team consisted of eight to ten members. The topic allotted to them was Rape and accordingly the teams carried out their performances.
