The Department of Chemistry, The Bhawanipur Education Society College organized an Inter-College Peer student oral presentation competition, Chem Voice”22 on 24th November, 2022. Students of Semester III and V, pursuing Chemistry (Hons.) from different undergraduate colleges were invited to deliver an oral presentation on any topic related to Chemistry UG curriculum and contemporary chemistry. Total 10 under-graduate colleges of the University of Calcutta participated in this competition. The Peer student’s seminar ChemVoice is a unique yearly endeavour by the Department of Chemistry, The Bhawanipur Education Society College to enhance peer-instruction, which involves students to explain topics to one another using their own words. Peer-instruction is known to promote long-term memory and provides students with insight into their level of understanding and their performance. In addition, teachers can identify student’s needs, determine how students assimilate information and indicate future learning directions. Programme started with the inaugural speech of coordinator Dr. Yeasin Sikdar followed by the welcome address of Dr. Pinki Saha Sardar, VP (Science & Admin).
The performance of the student was evaluated by two external judges, Prof. Syamal Chakraborty, Professor, University of Calcutta and Prof. Shouvik Chattopadhyay, Professor, Jadavpur University based on the points like, presentation, timing, content, delivery etc.
Each student got a maximum 10 minutes to deliver the lecture and 5 minutes for question & answer by judges and audiences.

Prof. Syamal Chakroborty who is one of the popular writers of ‘Philosophy and History of Science’ shared a short lecture on Scientists who won the Nobel Prize twice before announcement of the competition result.
57 students, 9 faculty members and 6 non-teaching staff participated in this event. All the winners were awarded with Cash Prize, memento and certificate.
Finally, this motivating and inspiring session successfully ended at around 5:00 PM with the vote of thanks by another coordinator, Mr. Sourav Das.
