On the 18th of April 2019, The Bhawanipur Education Society College, Department of Commerce (Afternoon & Evening Section) organized an industrial visit to Anmol Biscuit Factory – Dankuni Hooghly, West Bengal. This industrial visit mainly consisted of 2nd & 4th Semester students from Department of Commerce (Afternoon & Evening Section). The main objective of this visit was to make the students aware of the various activities related to production, marketing, financing and human resources functions carried out in the company.
33 Students were accompanied by organizing secretary of the industry visit, Prof. Atreyee Ganguly, Prof. Barnasree Chatterjee and Prof. Gargi Guha Niyogi. Students boarded the bus at 9:30 am, reaching the destination at 11:00 am sharp. Students were provided with refreshments in the bus.
On reaching the factory, students were warmly welcomed by the staff members and introduced to the HR manager, Mr. Susanta Sur. He briefed the students about Anmol Industries Ltd. through a motivational video. Anmol Industries Limited is a packaged food company, majorly focusing on biscuits, cakes and cookies. They have a strong presence in Northern and Eastern India and are currently making progressive efforts to establish footprints in the Southern and Western parts as well.
He also briefed all the students about the Do’s and Don’ts before visiting the plants. He was presented with a memento by our organizing secretary.
Each and every step of the manufacturing process is quality controlled and cautiously taken care of by the plant supervisors. It ensures best quality ingredients like flour, sugar, edible oils, skimmed milk powder, butter, flavouring agents, etc automating each process to ensure least manual handling and highest standards of hygiene. It also monitors critical processes like Raw Material Preparation, Dough Mixing, Sheeting, Cutting, Moulding, Baking, Cooling and the Packaging process including Logistics. 2400 biscuits are sandwiched in 1 minute.
1800-2000 employees work in 3 shifts per day for 7 days without interruption. Production per shift is 9 tonnes. In mixing department dough is made by mixing flour and wheat (applicable for Marie biscuit) after which slicing of biscuits are done and then kept for stand-by in stacks. From the mixing department the slices are placed in the oven for baking.
Then these biscuits are packaged. Through automated machines 175 packets are packed per minute after packaging. The broken biscuits are separated from the lot and kept aside for recycling process and are mixed with the dough in a certain ratio.
Anmol industries remain strongly committed to create and maintain the best practices in quality control. Hygiene is a serious primary concern in the industry and it is focused towards delivering a quality product while ensuring food safety. All the manufacturing facilities are fully automated and equipped with the latest plant and machinery that facilitate in manufacturing uniform quality products. It has adopted the GMP, HACCP and Good Housekeeping policies at the manufacturing facilities located at Dankuni in West Bengal, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. R&D plays a major role in the growth of Anmol group. Great emphasis has been given to innovation of products that suit the Indian consumers.
On completion of plant visit there was an interactive session where the queries of the students were addressed by the HR Manager, Production manager and Marketing-in-charge.
The visit to the Anmol Biscuit factory was very beneficial for the students, as it was a great learning experience and allowed them to see how different jobs are carried out in a factory, giving them practical knowledge of the theory that is being taught in the classrooms. The students were happy and expressed that they look forward for more such visits in future.
