The Department of English conducted the first session of ‘Alumni Speak’ on 04.12.2023 in the Concept Hall of the college.
It is an initiative taken by the department to offer career-counselling to the students, who get to learn about possible career openings and opportunities from their seniors working as professionals in diverse fields. It is primarily organised to strengthen the departmental alumni group and ensure regular interactions between the alumni and the current students.
Shafia Parveen, former student of the UG department, was invited as the speaker for the event. Ms Parveen is currently working as manager of research and documentation with Vikramshila Education Resource Society, a CSO, which works in K-12 education. She has nearly eight years of experience as a journalist and has worked with and written for The Telegraph, Calcutta, The Times of India, and Firstpost. She has also worked as an analyst with the political consultancy, Indian Political Action Committee where she was part of the core team.
Umang 2014 hosted the event ‘Debate’ in which 11 colleges participated. Debate was one of the most interesting events of Umang. The event started at 10:30am in the auditorium. The topic of debate was ‘Struggle is not necessary for success’. The time allotted to each speaker was three minutes and an additional one minute.
