Objective of the event: All round development of the personality of the students which includes apart from academic excellence, the spirit of punctuality, discipline, leadership and teamwork
8. Brief description of the event: The Department of Political Science organized a Prize Distribution Ceremony on July 22, 2024 in Society Hall for the students of Semester II Political
Science Major, to recognise their achievements in all types of academic and disciplinary activities during the semester. This ceremony is based upon the various Academic and Disciplinary measures introduced by the Department for the overall development of the students, not only in academics but in various other fields. The proceedings of the prize distribution ceremony were conducted by Amala Dhandhania, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science. She explained the parameters of the Academic and Disciplinary Measures on which the students were judged and awarded. She also mentioned how this endeavour has been successful in creating an environment of discipline and a zeal for learning and she believes that this in turn will motivate the students to perform better in future.
The following prizes and recognitions were given by Advocates Mr. Saket Chaudhary, Mrs Soma Kar Ghosh and Mrs Suchana Banerjee:
a. The Highest Class Attendance (based on the sum total of attendance in Political Science Major DSCC and SEC papers) which was won by Sanukta Roy;
b. The prize for Best Performer in Continuous Internal Assessment was jointly won by Sanukta Roy and Sania Haider;
c. The prize for Best Daily Individual Class Performance was won by Shovan Dasgupta;
d. The prize the Winner of Academic Quiz was given to Sanukta Roy;
e. The prizes for highest and second highest SGPA in Semester I University of Calcutta Examinations were given to Sanukta Roy and Limekua H Aye respectively
f. The Best Group (students are divided into six groups), which is a prize decided on the basis of various parameters which include the percentage of attendance in Continuous Internal Assessments, attendance in Mentoring and Doubt-Clearing sessions and attendance in Academic Quiz and Assignment of all the students of the group taken together. This prize was won by Group A led by the Group Representative, Sania Haider
9. Outcome of the event: The outcome of the event based on the students’ feedback is quite positive. Students expressed satisfaction with the current criteria and appreciated the initiative by the department. Some students requested more recognition for specific activities. The event, based on the Academic and Disciplinary Measures of the department throughout the semester, seems to have motivated students to continually perform better and encouraged more active participation in classes; through healthy competition among individuals and groups.
