The Bhawanipur Education Society College hosted a remarkable event on September 18th and 19th, 2023 from 10:30 a.m. onwards. The Concept Hall was transformed into a battleground, not of physical prowess, but of strategic thinking, teamwork, and digital prowess in the event called BGMI, Bhawanipur College Battleground Showdown, which was an evidence to the burgeoning importance of gaming as an upcoming industry.
In the initial round, 96 teams battled it out in 6 groups of 16 teams each. Only the top 8 from each group advanced. Round 2 saw the top 48 teams, divided into 3 groups, where they were competing in single-elimination matches, thereby heightening the stakes. The top 5 participants from each group and one wild card entry moved to the Finals. The top 16 teams in the Finals fought in the Best of 5 matches’ format. The top 3 in the Points Table emerged as champions.
The winning teams were:
First – ‘Team Insane’ represented by Md. Arshad Warsi, Md. Ayan Ali Molls, Rishab Kumar Shah, and Sahidur Rahman.
Second – ‘Team Warlords’ represented by Saksham Singh, Aniket Gupta, Siddharth Agarwal, and Sagar Kothari.
Third – ‘Exponentials’ represented by Adarsh Shaw, Akshat Jaiswal, Abhishek Hakim, and Yashva Rohan Mohatta.
Each participant was armed with a pair of headphones, ready to tune out reality and dial into the digital battleground. Alas, the headphones became their portal to a thrilling adventure! The battles were encouraged by enthusiastic spectators who had the privilege to watch the game on the screen. The BGMI simulated intense, competitive scenarios. It challenged the participants to think strategically, adapt to evolving situations, and work cohesively within a team.
Amidst the hushed conversations and the palpable excitement within the Concept Hall, there was an unspoken nostalgia for childhood days in the air. The Battleground Showdown represented the present and served as a poignant reminder of the pandemic COVID-19. When the world was confined to the four walls of their homes, these very participants had found solace in the virtual battlegrounds. Their headphones, once an escape from reality, had become lifelines connecting them with friends with whom they crafted alliances, waged epic battles, and shared countless victories and defeats. As they faced each other in the physical world, the memories of those late-night virtual duels still lingered around them somewhere. About 500 participants – 96 teams – two days – one winner. Insane, right? Or is it… I can Insane!
