The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), of The Bhawanipur Education Society College, in association with The Institute of Cost Accountants of India, Tax Research Department, conducted a seminar on Taxation and Economy of India: The Way Forward, on 12th November, 2022 which was hosted by the Department of Business Administration, The Bhawanipur Education Society College.
The seminar commenced with a brief introduction by CMA Rajat Kumar Basu (Additional Director, Tax Research Department, ICAI), wherein he highlighted the role of Taxation in our Economy, which was followed by lighting of the lamp and felicitation of all the esteemed delegates and speakers.
Dr. Suman Kumar Mukerjee, Director General, The Bhawanipur Education Society College delivered the Theme Address of the seminar. CMA Chittaranjan Chattopadhyay, Chairman – Indirect Taxation Committee, The Institute of Cost Accountants of India, enlightened the audience about the role of Management Accountants and Business Management Students on how taxes both direct and indirect have a bearing on the Banking and Financial Services Sector of our Economy. He also talked about the various short-term Courses on GST and Tax Laws that ICAI offers to students. Prof. Dilip Shah, Dean of Students Affair, The Bhawanipur Education Society College proposed his vote of thanks for the Inaugural Session.
The technical session was Chaired by Dr. Suman Kumar Mukerjee, wherein the Technical Session was divided into three parts, technical Session 1 – Increasing the Tax Base, addressed by our 1st Speaker CMA Timir Baran Chatterjee, Tax Consultant, who discussed about Increasing the Tax Base in the Agriculture and Informal sectors. He talked about the Female Participation Ratio with supporting data on various macroeconomic variables. For the 2nd Technical Session on Public Debt and Economic Growth with inclusiveness, our 2nd Speaker Dr. Shiladitya Chatterjee, IAS (Retd.) Advisor, Government of Assam, PMO, ADB spoke about and shared his views on Public Debt and Economic Growth in India and elucidated it to the students with a presentation. For the 3rd technical Session, our 3rd Speaker CMA Mrityunjay Acharya General Manager (Finance), Numaligarh Refunery Ltd. addressed the topic of Tax Evasion and Cryptocurrency. The students had an informative session and learned facts about the economy. We had a short Q&A session with the chairperson. The event ended with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Tridib Sengupta, Coordinator, Department of Business Administration, to all the organizers of the event. All the dedicated volunteers did a fantastic job to put up a successful seminar.
