Placement Hall, August 2nd, 2018. The Expressions Collective – is the fourth pillar of democracy in the Bhawanipur Education Society College (BESC). It is here that students desirous of making it into the world of journalism, communication and commercial arts get their hands-on grounding and are exposed to real-time tricks of the respective trades as they go about reporting about every event that takes part in the campus. Photographers, Reporters and Graphic Artists of BESC, for the uninitiated, are collectively known as Expressions.
Prof Dilip Shah, the Dean of Student Affairs of the College, welcomed the hundred odd freshers who had trooped into the newly constructed Placement Hall of the college giving them an overall idea about the concept behind the college’s efforts to gather them into collectives so that together, they can follow their passions, learning from the experts as they go about performing their way to learning about the ropes.
Chawm Ganguly took over after Prof Shah and explained how the students will be taken through the heady world of reporting, one step at a time. He talked extensively about all the areas of excellence that the Expressions collective will cater to explaining not only what is expected from the volunteers but also spelling out the spoils that accrue to those who excel. Basics of reporting and the mandatory pictures needed to cover any event were also spelled out, with detailed explanations behind each ground rule.
Proposed events – a Speaking wall for the college, exhibition of photographs frozen in time by Expressions members, workshops – were also discusses and a tentative roadmap for the collective chalked out. The students were also made aware about the forthcoming “Communique” an inter College fest that is not only one of its kind, but is also one in which the members of the Expressions collective can give full vent to their creativity.
The freshers were then shown a power point presentation about the general quality of work by the Expressions collective members, an effort to establish the yardsticks upfront for the newcomers to strive for, achieve and even surpass. The presentation was given by Expressions veteran Sreyanshu Mishra.
About a hundred students were present in the event – each keener than the other to uphold the high traditions of reporting that successive batches of BE-ites have painstakingly established.
