Youth Empowerment Society (YES) organised an informative and developmental programme, PDP (Personality Development Programme) for the students. It was conducted in 2 sessions for 5 days, the first one by Mr Jay Shankar and the other by Mrs Gargi Sen.
The session started with an innovative way of writing names on plain ice cream sticks which were later on used to identify people. The first thing done in this session was to share the expectations the students and the teacher’s had with this seminar. The respected faculty started the session by teaching us to applaud each other whenever someone shared something new. They encouraged one and all by saying that “Everybody is right in this room.”
The best friend of Today’s generation is the MOBILE PHONE. Generally for any seminars or workshops we are asked to either switch off our phones or keep it in silent mode; but this time we were told that across these 5 days we would be using it to develop our personality. Then the first collective exercise began where all were told to record a video of a minimum of 30 seconds speaking about ourselves. The session ended with the story of Terry Fox which inscribed in us that “Attitude is all that matters”.
DAY 2
After developing our attitude on the first day, second day was more focused on positivity but not before showing us that the letters of the word ATTITUDE add upto 100 so it is only us who improve our personality by positive/negative attitude. We were asked to focus more on our strengths rather than dwelling on to our weaknesses. To put more emphasis on this statement, we were told the story of the Great Footballer Maradona. To achieve clarity in thoughts, emphasis was put on searching the answers of how but diverting our attention to simple yet important aspects, being, why, what, where, when, who. This helps one to get successful in life.
A pillar to successful personality is effective communication. It was imbibed that efficiency of work depends on effective communication. It is necessary that both the sides do their communication properly. They harped on the fact of efficient usage of time. Time spent cannot be recovered though money spent can be earned back.To show us the variability of communication different situations were put forward and students were asked to prepare an impromptu skit.
DAY 3
The day began with an exercise where the students were asked to rephrase a headline from the newspaper. Everyone enthusiastically participated in it and gave their inputs. The idea of this exercise was to teach us to program our brains in such a way that reading is efficient. Then we were taught that for becoming successful, willingness is the most important asset. Willingness creates opportunities which in turn help in decision making. Then comes stages to success:
If we successfully cross these stages then the result is just a consequence of life. Then we were taught a beautiful lesson of doing our best with honesty and dignity without thinking about the results by the story of forest fire and kingfisher. Dreams, they can lead to success but only if we apply the 3 V’s:
Lastly, dreams should be shared. If not shared they die a natural death.
DAY 4
Being Commerce students investment and return are very commonly used words but a unique term ROTI, was introduced to us. ROTI stands for RETURN ON TIME INVESTED. The better the time invested better will be our ROTI. It is important that a certain amount of time is invested on our dreams. These small efforts will help us to achieve bigger and better results. We are responsible for our actions to fly the dreams of our kites. The day was ended by working on an assignment which focused on teamwork and to use the strengths of each other to tackle a situation.
DAY 5
The last day of the seminar, as promised, was the most exciting of the lot. It started off with a magic trick in which we learnt to reach our ‘LAKSHYA’. To reach this Lakshya we have to be SMART (S- Specific; M- Measurable; A- Achievable; R- Realistic; T- Time Bound). The last video activity done by us was to talk about 3 things which would be standing as pillars to achieve our goal. They also briefed us about the 4 steps by which a BIO-DATA should be prepared which would concentrate on our strengths. They even guided us to clear through the entire interview procedure and ended by the ways and means to achieve a POM-POM where the first POM stands for peace of mind and the second POM stands for plenty of money.
The session was concluded by talking about their dream which was to guide a large number of students efficiently so that they achieve their goals and become successful in life.
Overall it was a very enjoyable and unique experience in which we all shared our thoughts and learnt a lot to develop our personality.
