BESC has one of the finest sports rooms in town, yet most students cannot make as much use of its facilities as they wish, harried as they are by their tight schedule of academic activities.
What is more, when the do have the inclination and the time, the college is closed for vacations.
The result, even those who would otherwise have flexed their muscles, are forced into the bottomless pit of boredom and the net.
To address this issue, the management of the Bhawanipur Education Society College (BESC) has initiated series of steps to keep its various facilities (and faculties) open for the use of students during the vacations – another drive that is as unique and exclusive to BESC as the institution itself.
“Saradiya Siksha” a series of seminars aimed at empowering the seekers during the last Puja vacations.
The library is another facility that is kept open for the use of students during the holidays.
It goes without saying that the footfalls are extremely encouraging and the students are lapping up the opportunity that the move accords – some catching up with lost lessons, some acquiring new skill sets, while some others are honing their talents, instead of whiling away the time.
As an extension of this initiative, a Sports carnival as organised between the 26 th and the 30 th of December 2017.
Coach Cum Guide Soumen Mukherjee from the International Table Tennis Association conducted a workshop which ended in a tournament on the ultimate day.
In all 40 students participated in the workshop.
Regular practise sessions were also held for indoor games like Darts, Snooker, Pool, Carrom and Chess, all of which led to keenly contested competitions.
Prof Dilip Shah, the Dean of Student Affairs of BESC felicitated the trainers and gave away the honours to the winners.
However, the real winners were the hundred odd students who regularly made use of the college facilities, winning friends and influencing scorecards in their chosen games.
Delegates to the MUN – the Model United Nations organised by the students of BESC had such full plates in the conference that they did not fill their plates the way the organisers, hosts per excellence, would have liked to.
