Special Lecture on “Madhusudaner swadesh path o amader Michael porar dhoron dharon” (On the occasion of Bicentenary birth celebration of Michael Madhusudan Dutta) by Sri Abdul Kafi

The Bhawanipur Education Society College has always been keen to inculcate the perspective of its faculties and students by organizing diverse avenues of knowledge sources. Recently on 19 April 2024, in the Society Hall of the college at around 1 pm, a special lecture was organized by Bhawanipur Education Society College with the collaboration of Lady Brabourne College, Kolkata as a part of the bicentenary celebration of the birth of Michael Madhusudan Dutta, where a wide perspective the topic was discussed by invited speaker Professor Abdul Kafi (Jadavpur University). In March 2024, The Bhawanipur Education Society College signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lady Brabourne College. This Lecture has been the first initiative of the Bengali Department of the aforementioned colleges. In this lecture, the total number of registered participants was 101. Some audiences kept watching this lecture through online live streaming. Mrs. Debjani Ganguly, vice-principal, of the art department, and Mr. Tathagata Sen, IQAC coordinator graced the progrmme with their presence. This program was inaugurated by the felicitation of invited speaker Prof. Kafi by Dr. Mili Samaddar, followed by the inaugural speeches of Dr. Srabani Ray and Dr. Jaya Chakraborty, professors from Lady Brabourne College. They threw light on the life of Michael Madhusudan Dutta, the poet & writer of the 19th century, which was further illuminated by Professor Abdul Kafi whose topic of discussion was “Madhusudaner swadesh path o amader Michael porar dhoron dharon” or “Michael Madhusudan’s study of patriotic texts and our study of Michael Madhusudan”. Before getting into the main discussion, Professor Kafi unveiled the theoretical background of studying literary texts which helped the audience to grasp the later part of his discussion. His conceptual discussion on reader’s response theory largely thrilled the present audience and widened their perspectives about the great poet and writer. The entire program was anchored by Dr. Kasturi Mukherjee along with conducting the question-answer session at the end. The program of about two hours left a permanent relish in the audience about the wide perspective of Madhusudan’s literary works.

The Department of Political Science organised an academic trip to Kolkata Municipal Corporation on 1st April,2024 for the students of Semester 6.
