A business plan is a formal written document containing the goals of a business, the methods for attaining those goals, and the time frame for achieving the goals. It also describes the nature of the business, background information on the organization, its financial projections, and the strategies it intends to implement to achieve the stated targets. In its entirety, this document serves as a roadmap (a plan) that provides direction to the business.
Since having a business plan is one of the most important aspects of starting a business, the BBA Department of The Bhawanipur Education Society College organized an event called Shark Tank on the afternoon of November 24th, 2021. Participants in this event were allowed to showcase their innovative ideas and entrepreneurial skills. They also get to exhibit their convincing and presenting skills.
The participants together formed groups of bright, innovative ideas showcasing their talents. The BBA Department Coordinator, Dr Tridib Sengupta judged the event. He, has written books on management, published in journals, and given talks at international and national levels. He was the co-convenor of finance at the ICCEM international conference held at St. Xavier’s College in November 2017.
The Emcee of the event, Ada Bux, gave away the rules and regulations of the contest. The event consisted of 1 round where all the participants came up one by one along with their team members and presented their business plans beautifully. Each was given time duration of 4+1 minutes where 4 minutes were to present their presentations and 1 minute was for a question/ answer round by the judge.
The event was a great learning experience; all the participants participated enthusiastically and developed creative business plans. The judge was too happy with all the presentations and gave positive feedback about the event and the participants. Gradually the event neared its end as all the participants were done with their performances. In the end, a tie-breaker round was used to determine the event’s eventual victors. Mr Tridib Sengupta also praised all of the participants’ efforts and offered some helpful advice.
The Emcee then called the judge to give his final views on the entire event. He also gave the participants a few tips to help them in their future events. The judge was then presented with a hamper as the day came to an end. The Events Teacher Coordinator, Professor Kaushik Banerjee, then disclosed the winner and runner up for the competition.
Finally, the creation of FTI- A tea harvester device that focused on saving the 3Ts (Tea labourers, tea gardens and tea industry) made Sahil Roka and Suchismita Sinha secure the first position. Subsequently, Husain Zaveri and Hunaid Lokhandwala secured the second position for their creation called Mentalizzy. Lastly, Prantik Das secured the third position for his innovation ‘Sociac’.
The Student President from the BBA Department, Madhav Mohta and Devjyoti Banerjee, and the Events Teacher Coordinator, Professor Kaushik Banerjee, successfully conducted the entire event,’ Shark Tank’. The Event Committee Head, Hiran Banerjee and Ankita Chakraborty, and their Sub Committee Head, Inseeya H Kaukawala, put equal efforts into making the event a great success.
