In the realm of artistic expression, The Bhawanipur Education Society College, through the passionate efforts of Alefiyah Haji, the representative of ‘Art in Me’ Collective, hosted a four-day pottery workshop on the 14th, 15th, 18th & 19th of September 2023. Nestled within the serene confines of the college’s Knowledge Adda, this workshop breathed life into the ancient art of pottery, leaving indelible impressions on the hearts and minds of 25 enthusiastic participants.
This artistic odyssey was in collaboration with the School of Clay, guided by the skilled hands and expertise of Artist, Mr. Uttam Gharami. Over the course of four enriching days, the students were not mere spectators but active participants in the craft’s intricate dance. It was a fusion of art in progress & clay as the students got hands-on experience, with molding clay over an electric wheel & learning about the drying process which was in all a 4-day affair.
On the first day, participants were informed about the foundational aspects of pottery. With clay in hand, they embarked on a journey of learning the very essence of preparation, hand positioning & the right amount of pressure on the clay that creates this work of art. The second day unfolded with learning on the potter’s wheel which is an electric wheel, which curates the raw clay into ceramic pieces of wonder. The third day saw the culmination of the workshop, with the firing process under the watchful guidance of Mr. Gharami.
The students engaged in the complete process of making masterpieces from a piece of clay that would stand the test of time. Finally, on the fourth day, a sense of accomplishment and pride filled the air as participants carried home their adorable pots, vases, bowls & cups & rings each a unique testament to their newfound skills and creativity. The workshop had not only imparted lessons in pottery but had also woven a tapestry of memories that would forever adorn their hearts.
As the workshop concluded, the smiles on the faces of these budding artisans spoke volumes. Their hearts brimmed with enthusiasm, their minds swirled with ideas, and their hands carried the legacy of an ancient art form into the future. The Bhawanipur Education Society College’s pottery workshop had not only unearthed creativity but had also sown the seeds of a lifelong passion, reminding us of all that art, in its myriad forms, is a journey worth taking, and the destination is often as beautiful as the path itself.
