“Liberty cannot be preserved without general knowledge among the people” – John Adams
To establish among its students a proficient level of general knowledge, The Bhawanipur Education Society College in association with the quiz collective of the college, Quizzard hosted an Intra-college quiz competition in the Placement Hall from 10.30 am onwards. RICE Education Institute trains IAS aspirants leading to their holistic development and the quiz saw a competition amongst 20 participating students, divided into 10 teams of 2 people each, with most of them belonging to the Career Connect course of Fastrack GK Booster, organized by Prof. Nitin Chaturvedi, from B.Com (Morning) department. On the 12th of April 2024, the event began at 10.30 A.M. with participants seated in the Hall along with a curious audience seated at the back.
The competition had a panel of 4 representatives from the RICE Institute with one of them being the quizmaster. The proceedings began with words of encouragement by the Rector and Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Dilip Shah who encouraged the idea of similar events to be hosted in the college. All the quiz questions asked were related to the topic ‘Know Your Country’ with 4 rounds having sub-topics like Round 1 of ‘Know your Constitution’; Round 2 ‘Know your Country’; Round 3 ‘Know your Culture’ and Round 4 ‘Know your Leaders’. The teams were free to choose if they wanted to answer a question or pass it on, as there was a negative marking of 5 points for every wrong answer.
Round 1 consisted of 10 questions resulting in the elimination of groups 4 and 7; and Rounds 2, 3, and 4 consisted of 8 questions with no elimination or negative marking. Within each round, any question passed on twice by the groups landed on the audience’s side to be answered. Correct answers from members of the audience won them gifts that were presented by the RICE Institute. The quiz competition was an engaging event where questions on Articles of the Constitution, Pictorial questions as well as Audio questions were put forward. It positively coerced students to use all their knowledge at hand to win the rounds. At the end of Round 4, Group 8 emerged as the winner with the maximum points, Group 10 was the 1st Runner-Up, and Group 5 was the 2nd Runner-Up. There was a complimentary 5th open-house round where 6 questions were asked for anyone to answer and win additional prizes at the end.
Finally, Prof. Shah felicitated the quizmaster who remarked how deeply he enjoyed conducting the session at BESC and that he looked forward to conducting many more such events in the future.
