The students from different departments of the Bhawanipur Education Society College were taken to CMRI (The Calcutta Medical Research Institute) Hospital for an Educational visit on 6th July 2023. The students assembled near the Turf area accompanied by the two faculty in-charge, Mr. Subhasish Dasgupta and Mr. Souvik Mazumder. There were around thirty students, and they left the college around 9:30 am by bus, which reached the hospital by 10:30 am.
The members of the hospital welcomed everyone and asked the students to register themselves before entering the auditorium. After the registration, they were handed a manual as they entered the auditorium. In the auditorium, a brief presentation was given by Dr. Debarati and Dr. Sumona. Dr. Debarati greeted all the visitors and started the presentation by asking a few questions from the students. She asked them if they had ever visited the hospital before for any reason and the students shared their past experiences. Soon Dr Sumona gave a brief introduction about CMRI Hospital and how it established itself as one of the best hospitals in the city. In the presentation, different branches of the hospital were shown, and it emphasized that CMRI Hospital is best known for providing emergency services.
After the presentation was over, Dr Debarati thanked our faculty, Mr Subhasish Dasgupta and Mr Souvik Mazumder for taking the time and initiative to visit the hospital along with the students. After the presentation was over, the students were divided into groups of fifteen and they were taken to the fourth floor where they were addressed by Dr. Raja Dhor who is the Director & HOD, of the Department of Pulmonology at the Calcutta Medical Research Institute. He asked the student about their expectations from the hospital and four to five students asked questions and expressed their concern about the low salaries of healthcare care workers in hospitals at large.
Dr Raja Dhar then talked about the importance of healthcare and warned everyone about the harmful effects of smoking. They recommended everyone to take a balanced diet and do regular exercise to stay fit and live a healthy life. After the short discussion, the two groups of students were taken for a tour around the hospital. One of the staff members guided the students and showed them the various departments of the hospital like Department of Gastroenterology, ENT Department, Plastic, hands and Dermatology, Orthopedic, GI AND HPB Surgery Department, Radiology and imaging department, Mammography and X- Ray Department, Department of Renal Science and Dialysis Unit. The students were also taken to an empty patient restroom which helped them to understand the facilities available to the patients during the treatment. The difference between the normal ward and the ICU ward was explained to the students by the staff of the hospital.
The students were also shown the Nursing Station and Waiting room for the families of the admitted patients. The students were fascinated to see a food vending machine inside the hospital which was installed for all the working staff of the hospital. The surrounding areas and parking lot of the hospital were on the last list. The entire hospital was very well maintained, and the students loved the positioning environment of the hospital. After the tour was completed, the visitors were handed a food package which was provided by the hospital. This education tour to CMRI Hospital was an enriching experience for the students of the Bhawanipur Education Society College.
