Raas or Dandiya Raas is the traditional folk dance form of Gujarat, originated in Vrindavan by Lord Krishna, where it is performed depicting scenes of Holi, and Leela of Krishna and Radha. Along with Garba, it is the featured dance of Navaratri evenings in Western India.
A 5-day workshop on Dandiya and Garba was organized by The Bhawanipur Education Society College at the 6th floor auditorium from 23rd September to 27th September, 2014. This workshop was executed under the guidance of Mr. Dharmesh Bhimani, a trained dancer and an ex-student of the college, from Payal Dance Academy from 10 AM to 12 Noon each day, which was thoroughly enjoyed and loved by all the participants. The workshop saw incredible level of participation and enthusiasm from all the students. The participants danced to some traditional Dandiya and Garba songs.
The workshop was a great success where the non-Gujarati students who participated got a taste of the Gujarati culture and also got warmed up for “DHAMAAL”, a pre-Navaratri Dandiya and Garba event to be held on the 27th of September, 2014 in the college.
