The Department of Electronics of The Bhawanipur Education Society College organized a two-day hands-on workshop on VHDL on 2nd and 3rd of June, 2023. This workshop was directed towards acquiring a sound understanding of the VHSIC Hardware Description Language – VHDL as can be found in Bachelor’s and Master’s level curricula of Electronics across universities. This language is specially designed to model the behaviour of digital systems before actual synthesis of the circuit takes place.
The workshop was conducted by Dr. Sumitra Mukhopadhyay, Assistant Professor in the Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics of University of Calcutta and Ms. Debosmita Pal, Visiting Faculty of Techno India.
In addition to the students and faculty members of the college twenty six students and six faculty members from other colleges and universities participated in the workshop.
On the first day of the workshop, after a warm welcome of resource persons, the technical session started with the introduction of FPGA, HDL and VHDL. Then the resource persons demonstrated how to write VHDL code and verify the design using a simulator for different gates and circuits. The same was performed by all the participants.
On the second day structural and behavioral modelling of different circuits using VHDL were explained. A few applications of different modelling styles were also discussed by the resource persons. After discussing some questions from the participants the workshop was concluded by a vote of thanks followed by certificate distribution. The workshop was very much enriching to the participants as the experience will help them in their future career in both academics and industry.
