Objective of the Event:
To introduce students to photo storytelling and using camera for capturing expressions as a form of perception and perspective creation.
To encourage engagement with environment beyond conventional class-centric programmes.
To promote innovative and experiential learning practices thereby uniting theoretical aspects with practical learning.
Brief Description of the Event:
‘The Lens Life’ was a two-day photography workshop and exhibition jointly organized by the Department of Psychology and the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, in collaboration with Canon India and Idee. It was a joint initiative by two departments to impart the students with practical knowledge of both creating Perceptions (integral to understanding psyche) and technical understanding of Camera and Lens (integral to photography).
The programme commenced on 12 January 2026 from 12:30 pm with a photography workshop. The event was graced by the presence of renowned Fashion photographer Mr. Tathagata Ghosh, who attended as the Chief Guest and main spokesperson. The programme began with a formal felicitation ceremony. In the technical session, Tathagata reflected on creating a photo story with the help of his renowned and exhibited work on ‘SOI’ (Friend) and how he captured the communication between two female friends from a century old era, where most women were not allowed to leave the house. This helped the students to understand the skills required to use lights, space and objects along with expressions to communicate through Lens. Mr. Milan Dutta, representing the Canon India team, introduced the participants to ranges of Canon cameras and lenses. He explained their technical features, working mechanisms, and also highlighted Canon’s latest camera and lens launches. The first day concluded on a highly enthusiastic note, with students and faculty members interacting and clicking photographs with Mr. Ghosh and the Canon India team.
The programme commenced on 14 January 2026 from 1:00 pm with a photography exhibition. The event was graced by the presence of renowned Fashion photographer Mr. Tathagata Ghosh, who attended as the Chief Guest and Ruebec Bokhari, Marketing Head of Idee Eyewear were present as Judges. The second day, was dedicated to the photography exhibition. Both students, teachers and staffs showcased their artistic skills, presenting photographs based on the central theme “Expressions.” The exhibition reflected creative perspectives and storytelling through visual imagery. The exhibition was attended by students and teachers of different streams and sections along with Group D staffs, who also participated through their clicked photographs. Our beloved Dean Sir and Rector, Mr. Dillip Shah also graced the occasion and have an interaction with the chief guests.
The chief guests carefully reviewed the photographs, appreciated the creativity of the participants, pointed out areas of improvement, and encouraged students to enhance their skills in the future through an elaborate discussion session with individual students. The Judges selected three winners from students and one winner from the faculty.
Outcome of the Event:
Students gained exposure to technical knowledge of Camera and Lens and photo storytelling techniques.
Enhanced understanding of capturing expressions symbolically.
Encouraged creative thinking and interdisciplinary learning.
Strengthened the student–teacher collaborative relationship.
