Objective of the Event:
To sensitise students to dance appreciation through the framework of the Indian Knowledge System by integrating theoretical understanding with embodied practice, thereby fostering an experiential engagement with Indian dance traditions.
Brief Description of the Event:
The Department of Bengali, The Bhawanipur Education Society College, in collaboration with the Department of Bengali, Lady Brabourne College and Cultural Club, organised a one-day Dance Appreciation Workshop at the Jubilee Hall on 6 January 2026. The session was conducted by Dr Souraja Tagore, who effectively combined theoretical exposition with live demonstrations. She discussed concepts such as imitation, performance, accuracy, and embodiment while introducing participants to various Indian dance forms. The workshop was highly interactive, as theoretical ideas were demonstrated through performance, enabling students to understand dance through bodily experience within the Indian Knowledge System.
Outcome of the Event:
The workshop enriched students’ understanding of Indian dance as an embodied knowledge system. Participants developed a deeper appreciation of dance forms through experiential learning, enhancing their aesthetic sensibility, cultural awareness, and interdisciplinary perspective on performance traditions.
