Brief Description of the event: The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication organized a two-day workshop titled “Fundamentals of Statistics in Communication Research” on December 17th and 18th, 2024. The workshop aimed to familiarize students with statistical concepts and their relevance in journalism and media research. The first day, led by Prof. Amrita Biswas, focused on the basics of statistics, including data collection methods, measures of central tendency, and sampling techniques. Day two, conducted by Dr. Arundhati Bhattacharya, explored advanced topics such as regression and correlation, along with hands-on training in MS Excel for statistical analysis. The event successfully equipped students with the knowledge and skills to apply statistical tools in media research, enhancing their analytical capabilities in the field of communication studies.
