Earth Day 2025

The Environmental Development Committee, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of The Bhawanipur Education Society College, observed Earth Day on 22nd April 2025 at Jubilee Hall. The event commenced with a warm felicitation of the Guest Speaker, Mr. Rangan Datta, by the Coordinator of the Committee, Prof. Pushpita Gangopadhyay. This was followed by an engaging interactive lecture-cum-discussion, during which Mr. Datta addressed various environmental concerns and encouraged students to reflect critically on sustainability and ecological responsibility.

Following the discussion, an exhibition of photography and paintings by students, themed “Our Power, Our Planet,” was held. The artistic submissions, reflecting the students’ environmental consciousness and creative expression, were evaluated by Mr. Datta.

After a short tea break, the programme resumed with an insightful address by Prof. Dilip Shah, Rector and Dean of Student Affairs, who emphasized the importance of observing Earth Day in today’s world.

This was followed by a quiz competition aimed at fostering environmental awareness through an engaging and informative format.

Eight teams, each comprising two students, participated in the competition, which was conducted by Prof. Nitin Chaturvedi and Prof. Samreen Alam.

The prize distribution ceremony followed, notable for its innovative approach: all participants received certificates along with small tree saplings to commemorate the significance of the day, while the winners were awarded trophies in addition to these tokens.

The entire event was largely student-driven, with enthusiastic involvement in anchoring, volunteering, and participation across all segments. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Shaswati Das, who remarked that the significance of Earth Day extends beyond a symbolic annual observance,reminding everyone that our commitment to the planet must be sustained every single day.
