7. Objective of the event: The seminar aimed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of various aspects of the Indian legal system. It was structured to enhance their knowledge and analytical skills, preparing them to write a report on the basic understanding of the legal system of India as a part of SEC tutorial, a component of Calcutta University Examinations. This report will encapsulate the key discussions and insights shared by the esteemed speakers.
8. Brief Description of the event: The Department of Political Science organized a National Seminar (IQAC approved) on “Understanding the Legal System,” held on Monday, 22nd July 2024. It featured three distinguished speakers who delivered insightful sessions on various facets of the Indian legal framework. Mrs. Soma Kar Ghosh elucidated on the role of NALSA and Lok Adalats, emphasizing their significance in resolving disputes and ensuring access to justice. Mr. Saket Chaudhary explored the significance of language in the Indian legal system, highlighting its pivotal role in legal interpretation and clarity. Mrs. Suchana Banerjee provided valuable insights into the writ jurisdiction of the Supreme Court and High Courts of India, discussing the types of writs and their impact on constitutional rights.
