Emotional regulation is an awareness and understanding of one’s emotions and their impact on behavior, and the ability to manage those emotions in a positive way. The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of The Bhawanipur Education Society College conducted a workshop on skill development on emotional regulation on 17th September 2022 for the departmental students. The session was conducted by Ms. Pooja Sengupta and Ms. Vidisha Roy, faculty members of the Department of Psychology of the college. The workshop started with a welcome speech by a student of the department, Archisha Ghosh. There were many topics that were highlighted and touched upon during the session. It includes the definition of the word ‘emotion’, and the difference between feeling, emotion, and mood. Basic emotions (happiness, sadness, anger, and fear) and their characters were explained. The key component the workshop highlighted and critically focused on was ‘anger management.’ The expression of anger during certain situations and its effect along with the strategies to cope with emotional outbursts. The students were told about the different methods and techniques they can use like deep breathing or going for a walk, etc. The importance and need to be emphatic towards others in today’s world was also explained. The sharing of personal experiences made the session more interactive and fun to learn. The workshop ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Shaswati Das; who thanked the lecturers for such a wonderful experience and with the hope of having many more such sessions in the future.
