“Freedom is not just a word; it’s a feeling that unites us all.”
Celebrating the sense of freedom inside each of its members, The Bhawanipur Education Society College organized a list of activities to commemorate India’s 77th Independence Day. The Independence Day program this year was a tribute to Capt. Laxmi Sehgal, a revolutionary of the Indian Independence movement. The event was attended by a crowd of more than 2000 people, comprising of students, faculties, management, and most importantly nation lovers. The event was an attraction for all the new batch of students who have just started college this year.
Gathering at the college Turf at 9:00 am participants from The Bhawanipur Gujarati Education Society School (ICSE and ISC) and The BESC college came together to perform songs and dance, celebrating our Independence. Beginning with the opening speech, several dignitaries from the management were welcomed with a ‘tricoloured uttariyo’. After this, all the dignitaries present, unfurled the national flag which was followed by a melodious national anthem sung in synchrony. A march past hosted by the ICSE school students and cadets from our college’s NCC wing walked past the Turf, in honour of the National flag. The march past was followed by a speech from the President, Sri Rajnikant Dani.
An enactment of the life of Capt. Laxmi Sehgal was first in line in the list of performances acted by one of the members of the college’s Enact Collective. The enactment was a splendid one-man show by Srijita Ghosh, of Enact who took up the role of Capt. Laxmi Sehgal, in her soliloquy about life. Post her performance, ICSE school took over the stage with a colourful dance fusion from different states of our country, representing unity in diversity. The students enjoyed another musical by a group of school students who coloured the audience in the nation’s spirit. Next up was a fusion of rap and Indian songs performed by Crescendo, the musical collective of the college. The performance was then followed by an interesting freestyle dance on the theme of India by the Flames collective of the college. Throughout the event, Prof. Minakshi Chaturvedi, Coordinator BCom (Morning) interspersed the event with a quiz on India & prizes were handed over intermittently to those who answered correctly.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Dilip Shah, Dean of Students who remarked that the event was indeed a successful one with an outstanding footfall. As the crowd vacated the venue, taking pictures around the tricoloured decor, it became a national memory for each attendee. After the event at the Turf, later on the 6th floor the NCC Rank ceremony was also held with the usual flavour.
