The organizing committee of the Assembly of Nations had taken the initiative of organizing a mock MUN to help the students nurture and build in this field. This was the first ever mock mun that took place after the huge success of the Assembly of Nations. United Nations Human Rights Council was the committee for Mock Mun along with the International Press.
The chairperson of UNHRC was Souraydeep Das and the vice chairperson being Anik Maitra. The International Press was Chaired by Pooja Dabrai.
It was held on the 1st of July at the Placement Hall, of the college campus. The registrations began at 9 in the morning which was followed by the conference.
The agenda for the committee was “Reviewing the Durban Declaration and programme of action with special emphasis on indigenous communities”. Delegates from different countries arrived to speak about the agenda. The conference went well and was at its peak towards the end owing to the delegate of Rwanda. The delegates of France, Sudan, and Romania were in great flow of ideas, but India came on with some good points in the end. Delegates from all the countries got a chance to speak through their opening speech which was then followed by the main agenda. A motion was passed and based on the voting; the delegates stated their views which then led to an informal debate.
It was then followed by lunch where food was provided to the participants and the judges. After that, the International press held a press conference in which the delegates asked questions to the delegates, and the session was concluded with an unmoderated and a moderated caucus.
The committee ended with a discussion of the Adoption of Instruments for Upholding Cultural, Linguistic, and Spiritual Practices of stakeholders in the Durban Declaration followed by the award ceremony. From the international press, Sushnata Chakrabarty won the High Commendation award and Srinka Roy won the Special Mention.
The UNHRC had a merit of leadership award which in no particular order was given to The delegate of Sudan, the delegate of Romania, and the delegate of France.
Lastly, Prof. Dilip Shah, Dean of Student Affairs felicitated the Executive board members and with that, we ended the first Mock Mun.
