Course Overview

The M.A. degree at BESC is an autonomous, two-year postgraduate programme under the University of Calcutta, with a rigorous course structure. The course includes English language and literature and covers English literary studies, theories, criticism and pedagogy.

The M.A. English course is a combination of modern and ancient English literature with three main areas of focus—prose, poetry and drama. The course includes literature in English from all over the world including Irish, Scottish, Polish, American and Welsh, as well as India, from early times to contemporary. The course explores cultural, political and historical contexts of English and linguistics in depth and prepares students for teaching and creative writing, as well as journalism.
