On 31st January 2023, Prof. Parimal Merchant, from SP Jain School of Global Management was invited for a session on ‘Success in Business’. But owing to unforeseen commitments, Dr. Merchant had to cancel his talk, which he deeply regretted. Managing this crisis at his best, Prof. Dilip Shah, Dean of Student Affairs stepped in to take an engaging session on ‘Success in Business’.The session began at 11.00 am with Prof. Vivek Patwari introducing Prof. Shah & initiated his welcome on the stage. Prof Shah talked about how the essence of any educational institution is to derive a lesson out of a given situation, so that the teaching-learning process continues, despite the odds.
Prof. Shah engaged with the students in a one-on-one discussion on what it truly means to find ‘Success in Business’. One question that stood out amongst those asked by the students was “How to be consistent?” The discussion began on a note that any crisis that we face has to have a solution. The core of success lies not in being successful but in being consistent in finding a way out of the problem. Prof. Shah proved it with his presence at the session as he engaged with the students instead of calling off the session.
The core of Prof Shah’s philosophy is “how to engage your day constructively, irrespective of the hurdles on the way.” The key takeaway for the students was not just ‘Success in Business’ but finding ‘Success in Life’ which turned out to be a productive lesson.
