The Bhawanipur Education Society College organized a fun session on Maths Magic with Mr Debdeep Chakraborty on November 25, 2023. The interactive session took place in the Society Hall of the College from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. The emcee of the event, Sofia Parveen gave a brief introduction about the speaker Mr Debdeep Chakraborty who stands as a testament to the amalgamation of technical prowess and managerial acumen, holding a Bachelor’s in Engineering followed by an MBA from the prestigious B-school, TAPMI, where he achieved a remarkable 99.8 percentile.
Prof. Pinki Saha Sardar felicitated the guest speaker and Prof. Minakshi Chaturvedi, Coordinator B.com (Morning) welcomed him. Mr. Chakraborty started the session by introducing himself and is currently serving as the Chief Mentor at IMS Kolkata. He specified in his speech that his commitment is to nurture talent and foster academic excellence. His unwavering dedication and expertise make him an invaluable asset in the field of education. He has helped many students to pass the entrance exams and taught them magic math tricks. Around 100 enthusiastic students were attending the session. He presented a PowerPoint presentation showcasing the various tricks of Vedic Maths.
The objective of the event was to teach the students interesting and easy techniques for solving mathematical problems and prepare them for appearing for various entrance exams. Mr. Chakraborty asked the students which two subjects they think are necessary and important for surviving in any field. The students spoke aloud for Mathematics and English in chorus and yes it was the correct answer. He explained to the students that Maths is required for tax calculation and loan calculation, wealth management, and expense management.
The PowerPoint presentation he showed helped him teach the students about Vedic Maths tricks. He taught the Base Method, which helps us to solve large multiplication problems in a few seconds. He also illuminated the attendants by teaching them one linear method and solved a few mathematical problems using that method. A quiz was conducted at the end of the session which consisted of 1 to 5 marks questions. All the questions were supposed to be solved within the stipulated time of thirty seconds. It was amusing to see the students actively participate and engage in problem-solving and enjoy learning math in a fun way. All the problems and the answers were discussed by the students and Mr. Chakraborty. This session left an impression on the students that Maths is not difficult, it is interesting. We just need to know simpler ways to solve the hardest problems. Overall, it was fun and an enriching learning experience for the students of the college.
