Objective of the event: The event was organised as part of the 60 Years celebrations of The Bhawanipur Education Society College to facilitate an academic discussion on women’s empowerment in literature and society. It aimed to bring together perspectives from literature, journalism and contemporary social discourse and to encourage meaningful academic interaction among speakers, faculty members, contributors and students.

Brief description of the event: The Departments of Bengali & Journalism and Mass Communication, in collaboration with IQAC, organised a Special Lecture on “Women’s Empowerment: Literature and Society” on 27 July 2026 at the Society Hall. The programme commenced with the Welcome Address by Dr. Mili Samaddar, followed by an introduction to the programme by Dr. Shampa Sinha Basu. Dr. Chitrita Banerjee and Ms. Parijat Bandyopadhyay delivered insightful lectures on various dimensions of women’s empowerment in literature and society. A major highlight was the formal launch of Samaj O Sahitya: Narir Khomotayon, edited by Dr. Shampa Sinha Basu and Dr. Mili Samaddar, by Prof. Debjani Ganguly. The programme also included reflections by the contributors and witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, contributors and students.

Outcome of the event: The programme created a meaningful platform for interdisciplinary dialogue on women’s empowerment and encouraged participants to engage with the theme through literary, social and media perspectives. It also promoted academic exchange among speakers, contributors, faculty members and students and contributed to the academic dimension of the College’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
