On 20th October 2016, BESC organised an industrial visit to Skipper Limited, leading manufacturers of PVC pipes. About 40 students of Commerce Plus and YI along with Prof. Vijay Kothari visited the manufacturing unit at Uluberia.
Skipper Ltd. manufactures various Engineering Products such as Transmission Towers, Poles, Steel Pipes, Scaffolding, Hot Rolled Sections, Plastic Pipes and Fittings. The unit at Uluberia manufactures PVC Pipes under the brand name SKIPPER. The company is the largest producer of PVC Pipes in West Bengal. These PVC Pipes are used in different areas such as Plumbing, Sewage, Agriculture and Bore-well sectors.
The Uluberia unit is spread across 70 acres, and has over 2000 employees. Students received a warm welcome by the staff and management. They were hosted at the conference room and served refreshments. After this the students were taken through a PP presentation on activities and history of Skipper Group, their vision and future expansion plans and highlights of manufacturing process.
Students were then divided in three groups, handed out safety helmets and were taken on tour of manufacturing process by company officials.
The visit concluded with an interactive session conducted by Mr. Rajiv Soni who is a brand consultant with the company. The students were given proper understanding of various queries raised by them. The visit concluded with enjoying food packets.
