No. of Participants: 186 Students of 62 Schools and 62 teachers of those schools 6. Objective of the event: The event aimed to encourage Schools students to apply their scientific understanding into applications.
7. Brief description of the event: It was a blissful accumulation of scientific minds at The Bhawanipur Education Society College in Kolkata on Saturday, May 11 as students from schools from across the city of Kolkata gathered in teams at The Telegraph Online Edugraph Science Spectra to display their innovative talents and talked about the way forward in making the world a better place.
The inter-school contest stood as a testament to the power of youthful ingenuity and the potential for scientific advancement. The powerful minds came together with the sole objective to channelise their interest in research, experiment design, data analysis and project innovation. Guided by their mentors, the students, in teams of three from each school displayed their scientific understanding and creative ability through projects and presentations.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Science Spectra, Dilip Shah, Rector and Dean of Student Affairs, at The Bhawanipur Education Society College, highlighted the importance of such competitions where students learn from each other’s talents. “When you showcase your talent in such a competition, others also get inspired. With so many schools participating, it is a platform where you witness each other’s talents and learn from them. In science, making projects and participating in such competitions are important. Here, when you see the projects of other students, you will pick up elements from their thoughts. This is called participative, immersive and experiential learning,” he said.
The jury consisted of five eminent personalities from the world of science. This included Dr Debashish Chakraborty, Ex senior scientist and head applications of ISRO, RRSC East Kolkata, Joydeep Gupta, Cloud Strategy Practice Leader at IBM India Pvt Ltd, Dr Samir Kanti Dutta, Dean of Science at The Bhawanipur Education Society College, Dr Suparna Basak, Associate professor of Physics at The Bhawanipur Education Society College and Dr Samir Kumar Siddhanta, Associate professor of Chemistry at the Bhawanipur Education Society College. The students from all the participating schools demonstrated their projects in front of the jury members who decided on the top three projects
The first position went to Delhi Public School, Ruby Park, Kolkata for their Project, Plant Multifunctional System. On the other hand, the 2nd and 3rd positions went to Salt Lake School (English Medium), Kolkata for their Chandrayaan-3 Pragyan rover and Indus Valley World School, Kolkata for their project on Green Electricity, respectively.
The event ended with a vote of thanks from Dr Pinki Saha Sardar, Vice Principal, Administration and Science at The Bhawanipur Education Society College who thanked all the participants from various schools for putting in their effort at the inter-school competition and wished them a bright future.
8. Outcome of the event: The students of the schools were highly motivated after the events. The sharing of knowledges and ideas in the vast field of science enriched them in all aspect.
