Objective:
The competition was organised with the aim of celebrating the timeless legacy of Rabindranath Tagore by fostering intellectual and creative engagement among students. Through the medium of essays and posters, the event encouraged participants to explore and reflect on Tagore’s profound vision of freedom, unity, and identity, particularly in the context of contemporary polarized democracies.
Program Details:
To honour the enduring contributions of Rabindranath Tagore, the Bengali Department of The Bhawanipur Education Society College hosted an Essay Writing and Poster Making Competition on 7th May 2025 in Jubilee Hall. The event attracted enthusiastic participation from students across various departments.
The Essay Writing Competition was themed: “Tagore’s Idea of Freedom in Today’s Polarized Democracies.” Participants critically analysed and articulated Tagore’s vision of freedom, evaluating its relevance in the present-day global political climate.
The Poster Making Competition featured seven topics drawn from Tagore’s literary works, offering students the scope to visually represent his philosophies and messages through art.
A total of 35 students participated in the event, submitting well-researched essays and visually compelling posters.
The entries were judged by a panel of distinguished faculty members: Mr. Soumyajit Chandra, Mr. Swagoto Bhattacharya, Ms. Anuja Saha, Dr. Mili Samaddar
Their insightful evaluations ensured a fair and enriching competition experience for all participants.
Outcome:
The event achieved its objective by inspiring students to delve into the philosophical and cultural richness of Tagore’s works. The essays reflected a nuanced understanding of freedom and democracy, while the posters creatively captured the spirit of Tagore’s ideas.
The competition not only highlighted the creative and analytical talents of the students but also served as an effective platform for academic dialogue and artistic expression. It contributed to fostering a deeper appreciation for Tagore’s legacy among the younger generation and promoted interdisciplinary engagement within the college community.
