Objective of the event
to encourage students to creatively reflect on the historical significance of Independence
Brief description of the event
The Department of History in collaboration with the IQAC organised an interdepartmental poster making competition for first year students admitted in the 2026-2027 batch. Students interpreted Independence on the white canvas, and represented hopes and aspirations of a new generation. The posters were judged on the basis of artistic creativity and original thought process. The first prize represented Justice, Freedom and Dissent and new voices representing true freedom. The second prize was won by a representation of nation building and India’s journey to peace, stability and growth. Other winning posters included new thoughts, new dreams and a new India and India’s historical journey to its present-day concerns. The winners were commemorated by Professors Debjani Ganguly and Professor Piu Chatterjee.
Outcome of the event
The event was a success and was part of the department’s week-long commemoration of the 80th Indian Independence Day celebrations. It explored creative thinking and interpreting Indian Independence Day through a contemporary lens.
