National Service Scheme

The National Service Scheme (NSS), established in 1969 under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, is a flagship programme aimed at shaping socially responsible and empathetic citizens through community engagement.

Guided by its motto, “Not Me, But You,” NSS encourages students to look beyond themselves and actively contribute to the well-being of society. It provides a platform where education meets real-world impact—transforming young minds into responsible leaders through service, awareness, and action.

At its core, NSS is not just about volunteering—it is about building character, cultivating empathy, and understanding the interconnectedness between individual growth and societal progress.

NSS At BESC

At The Bhawanipur Education Society College, NSS is an integral part of the institution’s commitment to holistic education. The College actively fosters ethical conduct, social awareness, and community engagement, creating meaningful opportunities for students to contribute beyond the classroom.

The NSS Unit at BESC is vibrant, proactive, and impact-driven—regularly organising outreach programmes, awareness campaigns, and sustainability initiatives.

Through these experiences, students develop:
  • A strong sense of social responsibility
  • Leadership and teamwork skills
  • Sensitivity towards real-world challenges
  • The ability to drive change at a grassroots level

With over 50 outreach and extension activities, NSS at BESC has nurtured a culture where service becomes a way of life.

At BESC, NSS represents our belief that education must go beyond academics. It instills empathy, responsibility, and a strong sense of purpose in our students. Through meaningful community engagement, NSS shapes individuals who are not only skilled, but also socially conscious. I encourage every student to be a part of this journey of impact and self-discovery.

The NSS initiatives at BESC have consistently created tangible and far-reaching impact across Kolkata and surrounding communities.

From addressing health, education, and environmental concerns to supporting vulnerable groups, each initiative is designed to go beyond symbolic action and create meaningful, lasting change.

Through sustained engagement, NSS volunteers:
  • Bridge the gap between students and communities
  • Promote awareness, inclusivity, and sustainability
