“In the carnival of life, let enjoyment be your guide, and happiness be your constant companion on the journey.”
On the 25th and 26th of February 2025, The Bhawanipur Education Society College revived an event that has been a crowd-pleaser since its initial release. Carnival 2025, organised and hosted by The BESC in its Turf area, was an event open for all to witness. The two-day event was a hub of activity as its ‘Squid Game’ inspired theme attracted the youth attention of the city. The college campus was lit with theme-based decorations, attracting people from all over Kolkata, making this event a must-visit place in town. The vision for The BESC Carnival has always been to promote entrepreneurship among students by allowing them to sell their products in the allotted stall space given by the college. This year, the encouraging spirit of The BESC allowed 30 stalls; out of which 10 were appetizing food stalls, 7 were captivating games stalls, and the rest 13 stalls sold accessories and other items such as clothes, perfumes, handbags, sunglasses, phone charms, posters, wax hand statues and many more! It was uplifting to see how the event turned out to be so immersive for the students, as they were determined to work hard and provide the best experience to visitors.
From spicy street food to steamy momo, mouth-watering desserts to chill ice pops, creative posters and bookmarks to beautiful jewellery; the price for the items started from INR 20/- and went up to INR 700/- with the student entrepreneurs making sure no one left the campus empty handed. For entry, each person was asked to pay a minimal amount of INR 120/-, where INR 100/- was redeemed with coupons that could be spent during the 2 days of the event.
The Opening Ceremony of Carnival 2025 was held at 5:00 P.M. on February 25th where the Rector and Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Dilip Shah, opened the gates to Carnival 2025 with the ribbon cutting ceremony. Day 1 of Carnival 2025 received a massive footfall of more than 2500 people from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., as many more waited outside the campus. As for the people inside; The Backstage Siblings, India’s first Jamming Band, whose singing evocated joy and deep emotions at the same time in the hearts of students, proving that the new generation is full of talent and compassion. On Day 2, more than 1000 people congregated to witness the amusement one last time. The Retrocats, a Kolkata-based band that was formed in 2020 and specialises in performing a variety of songs ranging from the ’60s to the modern era, took the students back in time and reminded them of the treasure of retro Bollywood songs. Open Mic sessions that took place in between, on both days, encouraged students to showcase their talent on stage and get rid of all their stage fears by performing their go-to songs, comedy routines, and poetry through this opportunity.
Day 1 and Day 2 were packed with long queues and buzzing game stalls while the second day had unstoppable energy and sold-out stalls. The curtains closed on the Carnival 2025 with echoes of laughter and joy, until next time when we resume the game again!
