Objective of the Event:
To discuss how the advent and the first day of the Bengali New Year were celebrated in the past and how they are celebrated now, highlighting the changes over time.

Brief Description of the Event:
Baishakher Adda was organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication on the occasion of Poila Boishakh, bringing together faculty members to reflect on culture and the observance of the Bengali New Year. The programme began with nostalgic recollections of Poila Boishakh celebrations during childhood, shared by Mr. Tathagata Sen of the Department of English.

This was followed by reflections on the significance of the Bengali language and cultural identity by Dr. Soumya Bhattacharjee of the Department of Bengali, enriching the discussion with a broader socio-cultural context. Subsequently, Ms. Shaswati Das of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication spoke on the role of media in shaping contemporary celebrations, introducing a critical perspective on changing cultural practices.

The programme further included poetry recitations by Ms. Anwesha Roy of the Department of Mathematics and Dr. Priyam Basu Thakur of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, which added a new dimension to the discussion. The event was complemented by musical performances by Dr. Uttiya Chattopadhyay of the Department of Geography and Mr. Aniket Bardhan of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, echoing the spirit of the occasion.

The entire programme was anchored by Dr. Mili Samaddar of the Department of Bengali and Mr. Sanmitra Dutta of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, who facilitated the flow of the event with their insightful interventions. The entire programme was conceptualised, recorded, and edited by Mr. Sayan Sarkhel of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.

9. Outcome of the Event:
The event successfully created an interactive environment, strengthening interpersonal communication among faculty members across disciplines. It encouraged a meaningful blend of academic and cultural engagement and aimed to inspire participants to reflect on the issues discussed.
