Objective of the Activity:
The objective of the programme was to create awareness about environmental issues and to encourage students to understand the importance of trees in maintaining ecological balance and to promote responsible environmental practices.

Brief Description of the Activity:
The screening was organized at Jubilee Hall of the college. The programme began with an opening address delivered by Ms. Shaswati Das on behalf of the Environmental Development Committee, highlighting the significance of Earth Day and the relevance of the documentary in promoting environmental awareness. A welcome address was delivered by Ms. Atrayee Biswas on behalf of the Department of Geography, followed by the felicitation of the guests by the students.

The film depicted how an old tamarind tree within a residential area sustained different types of birds and animals. It also portrayed the relationship of a child with this natural environment, emphasizing the emotional connection between humans and nature.

The narrative further addressed the impact of rapid urban development, which led to the cutting down of the tree. This resulted in the gradual disappearance of birds and animals. The child, too, was left isolated, symbolizing the loss of both environmental and social companionship.

The screening was followed by an interactive session with the director, Ms. Debalina Majumder, and the producer, Ms. Samata Biswas, where students and faculty members participated spontaneously and shared their thoughts and reflections on the film. The programme ended with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Vidisha Roy from the Environmental Development Committee, followed by informal interaction among the participants.

Outcome of the Activity:
The programme successfully sensitized the participants towards environmental concerns and highlighted the need for responsible and sustainable developmental practices. It motivated everyone present to think about their everyday actions and the impact of those actions on the environment, as evidenced by the feedback received.
